digital divaIt’s easy to feel out of the loop in the world of new media. 1. How do you communicate with people at work?
I just stick to email – other ways of making contact take too long. If someone doesn't have email, I tend to lose touch with them.
Just meetings. I delegate all the clever electronic stuff to my PA, he's the one who's good with technology.
Phone, letters, faxes, email, SMS and face-to-face meetings. Whatever fits in best with others and suits the purpose.

2. How do you avoid viruses?
I update my virus checker regularly and now have one that scans mail attachments before I open them.
I read reports on how each virus protection system works and check their response speed to new problems. If the one I'm currently using is not the best available I switch to another.
I eat healthily, get lots of exercise and keep away from people with colds.

3. How often do you learn something new?
Not for ages – my job's not that demanding. I don't need to learn new things to be able to do it well. This suits me fine as I’m terrified of making a fool of myself.
Whenever the chance arises, I sign up for training courses at work and occasionally do evening classes in my spare time.
I keep abreast of the latest developments by finding the best courses and training opportunities. I always make suggestions to my employers, or go for things off my own back.

4. How do you keep up with new developments in the business world?
I’m always scouring the Web for information. I use message boards, mailing lists and discussion groups to make sure I'm aware of what's happening.
I'm not really interested in business news – if it's that important I'll hear about it from colleagues or read it in the newspaper.
From time to time I visit a couple of news or trade websites. They usually keep me in touch with what's going on.

5. The idea of freelancing is…
Something I wouldn't mind having a go at – it could work for me.
The only way to go. Being part of an organisation slows you down and holds you back.
Scary. I might do it for a short time if I lost my job, but I haven't really got the skill set necessary to survive in the freelance market.
